Zion’s “Liberty Bell” UCC – Patriots Sunday
The historic Zion’s Liberty Bell Church in downtown Allentown, 620 W. Hamilton Street, celebrates Patriots Sunday on May 27, 2018 at their 10:30 worship service. This special church service is held annually to commemorate Lehigh County’s “Declaration of Independence” enacted on May 27, 1776. This year’s patriotic service features the Rev. Joshua Knappenberger, a US Army veteran, who until 2014 served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Commander in Chief’s Guard, a ceremonial unit wearing Colonial uniforms and carrying Brown Bess muskets. The historic portion of the service features a worship service based on Colonial music and prayers, as well as re-enactors from the 6th Pennsylvania Regiment who provide a color guard for the service and a memorial salute with authentic Revolutionary era muskets immediately following the service in front of the church on Hamilton Street.
