SUMMARY:Independence Day at the Daniel Boone Homestead Friday\, July 4\, 2025 • 11:00am-3:00pm
DESCRIPTION:Independence Day\nat the Daniel Boone Homestead\nFriday\, July 4\, 2025 • 11:00am-3:00pm \nCommemorate our Nation’s birthday at the Daniel Boone Homestead’s Independence Day event. Learn about the different kinds of troops who fought for America’s freedom during the Revolutionary War including the militia\, Continentals\, Dragoons\, and Riflemen. Guided Boone House tours will be offered throughout the day\, as well as blacksmithing demonstrations. There will also be plenty of activities for children\, including a militia muster activity\, colonial toys and games\, and crafts. Children will get a chance to be “recruited” into the local militia as officers drum up for volunteers to fight the British. The new “recruits” will be taken through authentic eighteenth-century military drills and marches with wooden dummy guns. Our volunteer blacksmith will be making iron work used in the military and on the home front. Visitors can also take a tour of the Bertolet Log House and learn about the mounted Dragoons and their role in the Revolution.\nAdmission: Adults $10.00\, Seniors (65+) $8.00\, Youth (6-17) $5.00. Children 5 and under and DBHA members are free. Please no pets (except service animals) and no smoking. Visit our website or Facebook page for more information – www.thedanielboonehomestead.org and Daniel Boone Homestead\non Facebook. The event is funded and presented by The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates. The Daniel Boone Homestead is the birthplace of the famed frontiersman\, born in 1734. The Boone House\, constructed in three stages throughout the eighteenth century\, is a 10-room stone structure fully furnished to the period and situated on 579 acres of rolling countryside. The Daniel Boone Homestead is located halfway between Reading and Pottstown\, one mile north of Rt. 422 near Baumstown. The Homestead is owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission\, and daily historic operations are run by the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates\, a local\, nonprofit\norganization. Guests will enjoy free admission to the Museum\, including free guided Museum Tours\, and children can learn colonial skills and crafts through unique hands-on activities each week. The activities begin at 1:00 pm and will end at 3:30 pm. The Museum and museum store are open from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. While all are welcome to join us\, some activities may require parental assistance. This year’s activities explore Colonial life and history with knowledgeable workshop leaders. \nAugust 3: Stenciling—Create your own wooden decorative plaque with colonial-style stenciling. Stenciling was commonly used in early America to decorate furniture\, public buildings\, and homes. \nAugust 10: Weaving & Yarn Dolls—Have you ever wondered how fabric is made? Colonial families living on farms in early America often had to make their own fabric for clothing by spinning yarn and weaving on a loom. Join us to learn how to weave on a loom or make a doll using yarn! \nAugust 17: Journal Making & Quill Pen Writing—Make your very own journal and then try your hand at writing the colonial way. Did you know quill pens were often made from goose or turkey feathers and were used until the mid-1800s\, when fountain pens began to be used? Join us on the lawn to create your own personal book/journal to take home and then\, if you’d like\, practice writing in it with a quill pen. \nAugust 24: Colonial Architecture—How were houses built in Colonial times? Learn about the traditional Gin Pole technique for lifting logs into place while making a miniature replica of the 1740 Gray Cottage. \nAll activities are planned to take place on the lawn of the Moravian Historical Society. In the event of inclement weather\, activities will take place inside the 1740 Gray Cottage. You can find additional details about the Free Summer Sunday series by visiting the Moravian Historical Society’s Website: moravianhistory.org/free-summer-sundays \nThe Moravian Historical Society’s Museum is open daily from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and is located at 214 East Center Street\, Nazareth\, Pennsylvania. \nFounded in 1857\, the Moravian Historical Society (MHS) preserves\, interprets\, and celebrates the rich culture of the Moravians. MHS maintains the 1740–1743 Whitefield House and the 1740 Gray Cottage\, the oldest surviving Moravian structure in North America. Recognized widely for its significant collection\, the museum offers permanent and changing exhibitions and a store that features gifts\, books\, and handmade artisan items.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload the press release\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit our website\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis program is supported\, in part\, with funding from the Hotel Tax Grant Program through the County of Northampton Department of Community & Economic Development.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Moravian Historical Society is a proud member of:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nwww.moravianhistory.org\ninfo@moravianhistory.org 610.759.5070\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n        \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMoravian Historical Society | 214 E Center Street | Nazareth\, PA 18064 US\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUnsubscribe | Update Profile | Constant Contact Data Notice
