The event takes place on Saturday\, December 16th\, 10am-12pm. This event is specifically designed to provide a calm and relaxed environment for children and adults who may feel overwhelmed by traditional settings. With careful consideration given to sensory triggers\, the Sensitive Santa Event ensures that everyone can enjoy the holiday festivities stress-free. From gentle lighting to quieter music\, this event strives to create a warm and inviting atmosphere where families can connect and celebrate the magic of Christmas in a way that feels comfortable for everyone. The train station has partnered with the Branching Out Foundation to\nopen earlier and make the station privately accessible to people with disabilities. The station is decorated like a winter wonderland for their holiday market. The non-profit Friends of the New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center goal was to make the train station available to all\, and their organization saw this as the perfect partnership for those with special needs.Sensitive Santa is designed to provide a more inclusive and accommodating environment for children of all ages with special needs during the holiday season. The purpose of Sensitive Santa is to ensure that all children\, regardless of their abilities or disabilities\, have the opportunity to meet and interact with Santa Claus in a way that is comfortable and respectful of their unique needs. By understanding the importance of Sensitive Santa\, we can create a more inclusive and accepting society where every child feels valued and celebrated during this magical time of the year.\nVickie Mendes-Branch founded Branching Out Foundation in 2015 after learning that her son had autism and being unable to find any local support services. Branching Out Foundation was formed with the expectation of providing various training opportunities and support initiatives\nfor parents and caregivers whose lives have been impacted by autism.\nAlso in 2022\, to offer more community support to parents in Phillipsburg. Branching Out- Page One Resource Center was opened in Phillipsburg. On Sunday\, March 3 at 2pm we invite visitors to join us in the DeTurk Education Center for “A Stitch in Time: A History of Quilting” presentation. This lecture will be given by Becky Hughes\, a local quilting historian who has been quilting for over 20 years. There is no fee to attend this program and reservations are not required.\nOn Saturday\, March 16 from 9am-12pm\, we will host a quilt making workshop in the DeTurk Education Center. Have you ever wanted to learn how to quilt? Well now’s your chance! This workshop\, led by the Hopewell Quilters\, is open to all skill levels. Participants will get to make a potholder to take home. DESCRIPTION:Charter Day Celebrating Pennsylvania’s 343rd Birthday\nSunday\, March 10\, 2024 • 12:00-4:00pm \nThe Daniel Boone Homestead Associates are excited to kick off their 2024 season with their annual Charter Day Open House event celebrating Pennsylvania’s 343 rd birthday. Charter Day recognizes the day William Penn received his land grant for Pennsylvania from King Charles II of England in 1681. In observance of Pennsylvania’s founding\, the Daniel Boone Homestead will offer an exciting open house and living history event featuring eighteenth century demonstrations\, trades\, and hands-on activities\nincluding the operation of the unique Bertolet Sawmill. Additional demonstrations include gunsmithing\, leatherworking\, hearth cooking\, spinning\, wool dyeing\, and blacksmithing. The event will also feature craft and specialty food vendors as well as food trucks and concessions. Visitors can tour the spring cellar and Boone House as they learn about the three families who lived there during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Volunteers will be cooking a hearty meal over the hearth in the kitchen. Other buildings in the historic area will also be open for viewing including the Smokehouse\, Blacksmith Shop\, and Homestead Barn. Throughout the historic area\, visitors can learn\nabout the skillful work of a blacksmith\, the detailed work of a leatherworker\, and the intricate work of a gunsmith. Visitors will also have the unique opportunity to tour the three-room Bertolet Log House and enjoy colonial toys and games. Finally\, staff will be running the Bertolet Sawmill throughout the afternoon. Visitors can choose from two times – 1:00 and 3:00pm – to watch this rare piece of machinery in action. The Sawmill is one of the oldest operating water-powered vertical blade sawmills in Pennsylvania. It was moved to the Homestead in 1972 from its original location in the Oley Valley.\nNo admission is charged for this program\, but donations are welcome. Please no pets (except service animals) and no smoking on site. Several activities and demonstrations are weather dependent.
