DESCRIPTION:Heritage Day Fall Festival\nSunday\, October 20\, 2024 • 12:00-4:00pm \nThe Daniel Boone Homestead Associates are excited to celebrate the arrival of fall with the Homestead’s annual Heritage Day event. This living history event features a variety of eighteenth-century demonstrations\, trades\, and hands-on activities. These include gunsmithing\, blacksmithing\, open-hearth cooking\, spinning and wool dyeing\, candle dipping\, leatherworking\, and more. The ever-popular colonial musician Bob Mouland will be returning this year\, and visitors can watch a demonstration of the historic Bertolet Sawmill. The event will also feature craft and specialty food vendors as well as fall activities for children like pumpkin painting.\nIn the Boone House\, volunteers will be cooking a hearty meal over the hearth\, while Bob Mouland treats guests to colonial music in the English parlor. Visitors can also tour the Boone House and spring cellar and learn about the three families who lived there during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Throughout the historic area\, visitors can learn about the detailed work of a leatherworker\, the hot trade of a blacksmith\, and the skillful work of a gunsmith. Volunteers will also be demonstrating textile processing\,\nwool dyeing\, spinning\, and quilting\, and visitors will have the unique opportunity to tour the three-room Bertolet Log House.\nDuring the afternoon\, visitors will also have a chance to see the Bertolet Sawmill in action. The Sawmill is one of only three operating\, water-powered\, vertical blade sawmills in the United States. It was moved to the Homestead in 1972 from its original location in the Oley Valley. In addition to demonstrations and trades\, there will be a variety of eighteenth-century hands-on activities for children and adults to enjoy including candle dipping\, quill pen writing\, and colonial toys and games.\nAdmission: Adults $12.00\, Seniors (65+) $10.00\, Youth (6-17) $5.00.  Children 5 and under and DBHA members are free. There will be a quilt there for visitors to try their hand at quilting. If\nanyone attending has a quilt they wish to share or have questions about\, we encourage you to bring it along.Following the presentation\, there will be a silent auction until 1:00pm. Proceeds from the auction will be applied to the restoration of the ground-level board floor in the Mouns Jones/Kirlin House. The program will take place in the White Horse Inn. DESCRIPTION:Daniel Boone Dash 5k/10k\nSunday\, September 29\, 2024 • 9:00am \nThe Daniel Boone Dash 5k/10k is returning this fall to the scenic Daniel Boone Homestead.Featuring a new course and start and finish line\, runners (and walkers) can experience the site’s rich history on foot as they run through the historic grounds. The course includes gravel and paved surfaces but is primarily run on pavement. It will weave through the historic area and by the Boone House with minimal vehicle traffic. Register today at the discounted rate and receive a T-shirt and one-time use admission pass for a guided Boone House tour. Registration begins at 7:30am at the Visitor Center. The race starts & finishes at the Visitor Center and will begin at 9:00am. Participants will park in the Visitor Center and Craft Shed Parking Lots.Runners do one or two 5K loops around the Homestead. Let your legs determine what mileage you do at the end of the 1 st loop. Our Featured Guest Speaker this year will be Patricia Bootsma. She alongside her husband have been Pastoral Leaders with Catch the Fire ministries for 30 yrs. She is also one of the Outreach Directors/Pastors of Catch the Fire KC. Patricia is a Global Prayer Director for Israel\, leading an online House of Prayer for Israel with 28 nations.
