SUMMARY:The Allentown Rescue Mission will host its third annual “Date with Dad” cookout on June 21\, 2026\, for men residing at the Mission and their families.
DESCRIPTION:Picnic Aims to Help Dads Reconnect with Their Children \n(ALLENTOWN\, PA) – The Allentown Rescue Mission will host its third annual “Date with Dad” cookout on June 21\, 2026\, for men residing at the Mission and their families. Men experiencing homelessness are often separated from their families and overlooked as fathers. The Mission’s annual Father’s Day picnic aims to foster reconciliation between its guests and their children. Felix\, a current guest at the Allentown Rescue Mission and employee of the Clean Team Workforce\, has been preparing himself for the day he can reunite with his son. Felix came to the Allentown Rescue Mission seeking a positive environment after personal struggles with addiction and incarceration. Today\, he is firmly rooted in his Christian faith and is determined to change his life for the better. “My\ngoal is to be with my son again. I’ve taken online parenting and GED classes and have been working on myself so I can be a good dad. My son is my motivation\,” Felix explained. According to recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau\, one in four American children lives in a fatherless household. This living arrangement often brings severe social consequences and trauma for children separated from their parents. Serving nearly 1\,000 men each year\, the Allentown Rescue Mission works to rescue\, rehabilitate\, and restore dads\, like Felix\, to their families every day. The Mission’s Transformation Program\, an eight-week Christ-centered program\, explores topics such as fatherhood responsibilities and second chances with family. The staff emphasizes the importance of family relationships and the positive impact of having a father present in the home\, intending to build stronger dads\, families\, and communities.

SUMMARY:All Abouts Bats Program at the Daniel Boone Homestead Friday\, July 17\, 2026 • 7:30pm at 400 Daniel Boone Road Birdsboro\, PA 19508
DESCRIPTION:All Abouts Bats Program\nat the Daniel Boone Homestead\nFriday\, July 17\, 2026 • 7:30pm \nDid you know the Homestead is home to numerous bats? Join us for an evening program to learn more about the bats that live at the Daniel Boone Homestead. Led by Dr. Karen Campbell\, retired Albright College professor\, this program will consist of a presentation inside the Wayside Lodge followed by a walk to search for bats as dusk falls. Bat boxes are located throughout the Homestead property\, and bats can often be spotted nesting and flying around the site. Bats are the only mammals able to fly and are more agile while flying than most birds. Dr. Campbell earned her PhD from Indiana University in Vertebrate Physiology and Zoology. She has done extensive bat research at eastern Pennsylvania parks and historic sites including Valley Forge\, Hopewell Furnace\, and the Berks County\nHeritage Center. No admission is charged for this program. It will take place in the Wayside Lodge. Please no pets (except service animals) and no smoking. Visit our website or Facebook page for more information – www.thedanielboonehomestead.org and Daniel Boone Homestead on Facebook. The event is funded and presented by The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates. The Daniel Boone Homestead is the birthplace of the famed frontiersman\, born in 1734. The Boone House\, constructed in three stages throughout the eighteenth century\, is a 10-room stone structure fully furnished to the period and situated on 579 acres of rolling countryside. The Daniel Boone Homestead is located halfway between Reading and Pottstown\, one mile north of Rt. 422 near\nBaumstown. The Homestead is owned by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission\, and daily historic operations are run by the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates\, a local\, nonprofit organization. If you would like more information or would like to make a donation\, please contact the Daniel Boone Homestead at 610-582-4900.
